Alyson Footer is reporting that Jim Deshaies has indeed accepted a job as the color commentator for the Chicago Cubs. The longtime Astros TV announcer has signed a four year contract to broadcast games for WGN and Comcast SportsNet Chicago. News of Deshaies’ interview with the Cubs broke around Thanksgiving, causing many Astros fans to voice their dismay.

The Astros are said to have made Deshaies an offer of “fair market value” to stay on with the team and their new TV network. The Astros have reportedly given their announcers one year deals in the past and the Cubs offer of four years had to be a big selling point.

Deshaies has often stated during Astros broadcasts that Chicago is one of his favorite towns to visit. The area around Wrigley Field has plenty to offer in the way of bars and restaurants. Now Deshaies can enjoy the city on a regular basis

I can honestly say I will make an attempt to watch more Cubs games in the future. Deshaies is a true professional and a joy to listen to. His quick wit brings a little extra to the broadcasts. Deshaies also has a way of easing the pain of a tough game or season. That makes him a natural fit for the Cubs.
