The Los Angeles Dodgers today announced the hiring of Gerry Hunsicker as Senior Advisor of Baseball Operations. Astros fans will remember Hunsicker as the General Manager that helped build the Astros into a perennial playoff team in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Since leaving the Astros in 2005, Hunsicker has been the Senior Vice President of Baseball Operations for the Tampa Bay Rays. Hunsicker, 62, is the latest high-profile acquisition made by the Guggenheim Media group that purchased the Dodgers for a reported $1.2 billion this summer. Hunsicker is credited with having built up the Rays international scouting department and will be asked to do the same for the Dodgers.

Hunsicker, who was named Baseball Executive of the Year in 1998, was rumored to be in the running for the Astros G.M. position last year when Jeff Luhnow was eventually hired.
