Kyle Weiland will miss his turn in the rotation Friday due to a sore right shoulder. Weiland has traveled back to Houston to be examined by team doctors. Wandy Rodriguez will start Friday’s series opener in Cincinnati on his regular four days of rest. Thanks to tomorrow’s off day the Astros can keep everyone on their regular schedule and hope Weiland is ready to return on May 1 against the Mets.

Weiland won the fifth starter’s job with an excellent showing this spring but has struggled thus far in the regular season. Weiland has lost all three of his starts and his ERA sits at 6.62. Kyle went seven innings against the Dodgers on Saturday in what was his best start of the young season.

If Weiland isn’t ready by Tuesday and needs to go on the disabled list, Jordan Lyles could be called up to take his spot. Lyles has been outstanding at AAA Oklahoma City, winning all four of his starts and posting a 1.077 WHIP. Lyles took a no-hitter into the sixth inning in Tuesday’s 8-4 win over Albuquerque. Lyles has struck out 24 batters in 26 innings while walking only four.
