Ah, the four most beautiful words in the English language, pitchers and catchers report. The Astros opened camp today at Osceola County Stadium  and every pitcher and catcher was present and ready to go. The Astros have 28 pitchers and seven catchers in Kissimmee preparing for the 2012 season. Catcher Mike Kvasnicka was a late addition to the catching corps, as Brian reported earlier today.

Fellow backstop Jason Castro, who is recovering from off-season foot surgery said

"I wasn’t sure how the whole rehab process was going to go, but everything has gone really well. That makes me even more excited to get going, knowing I’m healthy and ready to go."

New owner Jim Crane spoke with the players prior to their first workout and later said

"I think everyone is focused"

The theme of this year’s camp is competition. Young players and veterans alike will be battling for starting jobs or a spot on the roster. The weather in Kissimmee looks good for the first week of camp. Some position players have arrived early, with the first full-squad workout scheduled for Sunday.
