@crober72 You bring up an excellent point that I was going to make in the post but decided against it. Selig’s former team, the Milwaukee Brewers, is basically a beer team. If we are censoring the gun’s from the Colt 45′s, then why aren’t we censoring the beers on the Brewers jersey’s/logos/merchandise as it could promote drunk driving. MLB’s (Selig included) line of thinking over the past 20 years has been questionable at best. Lucky for them though, David Stern still runs the NBA and is a complete idiot, which doesn’t make them look THAT bad.

I personally think it is pretty stupid to remove the pistols. Offensive racial stereotypes aside, I’ve never understood the idea behind making a mascot or a team’s jersey more socially acceptable. If you’re removing the guns from the throwback uni’s, you’re implying that a section of the team’s fanbase is going to be inspired to go out and buy a gun and commit violent acts. If that’s the case, what’s the defense of Selig’s former team — The Brewers — being allowed to continue using the name? Doesn’t that promote drinking, especially among the team’s younger fans? And I suppose you could argue that minus the revolver, one might misinterpret “Colt .45′s” to be a reference to malt liquor. This is just so silly…
