Astros to Interview Friedman

Just as I’m about to settle in and watch WWE Monday Night Raw, Richard Justice drops this news. The Astros have asked for and received permission to interview Rays GM Andrew Friedman.

Obviously, this is terrific for the Astros as Friedman is regarded around baseball as one of the best GM’s in the game. Luring him back home would be a major coup for the Astros. The article does not say if he is being interviewed specifically for the GM job but regardless, Friedman would not agree to interview unless he was interested in joining the Astros in some capacity. As an Astros fan, every move that Jim Crane and George Postolos have made thus far should have everyone excited about this team’s future. More on this as it becomes available.

Andrew Friedman would be great for the Astros. My only concern if he was hired would be the fact that Tampa Bay are very conservative in promoting prospects to say the least. Everyone is moved through the system extremely so. I don’t know how much of that was Friedman or organizational philosophy, but in an organization that would have nothing else to look forward to, I could see where fans would grow impatient if this were the case.
