Astros to make MAJOR changes tomorrow

Ken Rosenthal just tweeted the ‘Stros will make major changes including the dismissal of Ed Wade. The “Major Changes” is interesting because it was thought meetings with front office staff members would begin tomorrow but now it appears that Jim Crane’s plan is already in motion. Tal Smith is also expected to retire and Brad Mills is also uncertain to keep his position.

Danny Knobler has noted Andrew Friedman will be a longshot as he loves the Rays organization and that Crane admires the Rangers organization. That could mean Thad Levine might be a logical candidate come tomorrow.

Late this evening, George Postolos confirmed that Ed Wade and Tal Smith have been dismissed and notified of the decision. An immediate search for a new GM has begun and with the Winter Meetings starting very soon, expect a quick process.

Topics: Ed Wade, George Postolos, Jim Crane, Ken Rosenthal, Tal Smith

Sad to know that Draytons penny pinching and poor ownership over the last several years probably played a huge role in why Wade wasn’t able to do much with this franchise. Hopefully this turns out to be a MAJOR upgrade in the long run.

@Its Gonna Happen It does make me wonder what Wade might have done with more flexibility and an owner willing to win at all cost. I think while Crane won’t spend a ton initially he will spend in player development which should be refreshing.
