Rockies Horror

Last night’s 13 inning loss to the Rockies seemed to have a hangover effect on the Astros today. The slumping Rockies snapped a nine game losing streak Saturday even though they managed only five hits in thirteen innings. Today Colorado pounded out a club record 25 hits in a 19-3 romp of the Astros. Lucas Harrell started the game for Houston and suffered the loss. Harrell had good movement on his fastball, but everything the Rockies hit seemed to find a hole or bloop in over the infielders. Harrell also made a couple of miscues, throwing wildly to second base on a comebacker and committing a balk.

Once the Astros went to the bullpen in the fourth inning it looked like batting practice for the Rockies. Lance Pendleton and Xavier Cedeno were hit particularly hard. Pendleton even served up a homerun to Colorado starting pitcher Kevin Millwood. There’s not much to report in the way of positive news from this game, but here goes. Chris Johnson had two hits and an RBI. J.B. Shuck drove in a run with a ninth inning pinch-single that nearly decapitated Colorado hurler Greg Reynolds. Shuck actually has a very pretty swing.

When I emerged from my man cave and told my wife the score was 19-3 I made sure to tell her I wasn’t talking about the football game. Oh by the way, the NFL team from Denver only managed to score 14 points today against a team that originated in Houston. The Tennessee Titans won that game 17-14.
