Star Performer of the Week Sept. 12 – 18

The Astros scored three runs in the first inning today and held on for a 3-2 win over the Cubs. The Astros finally got the benefit of a close call when Carlos Pena‘s go-ahead homer in the eighth was properly ruled a double, keeping the Astros lead at 3-2. Mark Melancon came in and shut the door to give the Astros a 3-3 record for the week. Melancon is this week’s runner-up after hurling 3 & 1/3 scoreless innings.

Melancon’s eighteenth save of the season secured the win for this week’s Star Performer, Brett Myers. It was the second win of the week for Myers who pitched 15 & 2/3 innings and allowed only two earned runs. Myers has won three straight starts and suddenly looks like the 2010 version of himself. Carlos Lee gets honorable mention with a 7 for 23 week that included three homers and five runs batted in.
