Sale of Astros seems to be hitting a snag

by Astros

Drayton McLane’s sale of the Astros to a group led by Houston businessman Jim Crane seems to be struggling to gain the approval of Major League Baseball. Several media outlets are reporting that the deal is in danger of falling apart. Personally, I think Crane is not the right man for the job. Bud Selig and a number of MLB owners seem to share that sentiment. If you are not familiar with Crane and his somewhat checkered past, this article published by Forbes Magazine does a good job of chronicling his shady business practices. I'm not so sure that Crane's past is what is holding up the sale although I could see why Richard Justice and others have reported that way. More than anything else I just think that MLB has bigger issues to deal with like the Dodger McCourt thing, and the Anderson Mets thing, along with the new collective bargaining agreement due at the end of the year. Basically MLB has more pressing issues to deal with right now.

Does Cranes past bother me, not really. With the proposed ownership group in place I'm sure that Crane would run the Astros equally and fairly for all, and that his past while troubling probably wont affect any Astros related decisions.

The more I read on Crane the more excited I got about the potential ownership change. From the little info that has been leaked on Crane it seems like a guy who likes to stay out of the spotlight. Articles have stated that he would like to put a good group of baseball guys in place to make day to day operations and then hold them accountable. After McClane had a stranglehold over every decision made which in turn led to running off good general managers like Hunsicker, then this type of leadership style would be a breath of fresh air.
