Star Performer of the Week Aug. 15 – 21

The Astros had a 4-2 week at home that included a four game winning streak. It took the Giants extra innings to put an end to the streak yesterday. The youngsters really made their presence felt this week. J.D. Martinez made a bid to capture his third straight Star Performer Award, going 8 for 23 with a homer and six RBIs. Martinez also made a beautiful throw yesterday afternoon to nail a runner at the plate and keep the game tied. But with eight strikeouts and only two walks I just couldn’t give J.D. anything more than runner-up status. Jose Altuve had another nice week to earn honorable mention.

Altuve went 6 for 22 and sparked the team to a victory with his leadoff inside-the-park homer Saturday night. But one player made the most of his opportunities and earned his first Star Performer Award of the season. Brian Bogusevic snatched victory from the jaws of defeat Tuesday night against the Cubs. Bogey blasted a walkoff Grand Slam off Carlos Marmol to complete an improbable comeback for the Astros. Bogusevic had two homers and drove in seven runs in only eleven plate appearances during the week. Like Martinez, Bogey also had a nice outfield assist. Astro fans want to see more of the ex-pitcher turned outfielder. Hopefully Brad Mills will get Bogusevic a little more playing time down the stretch.
