On a day that Brad Ansberg run as pitching coach came to end, Hunter Pence‘s hitting streak also came to an end as he went 0-4 against the Pirates. It was the longest current streak in the MLB and the second longest this season behind Andre Either’s 30 game hit streak.
This was the fourth longest streak in Houston Astros history behind Willy Taveras (30 games), Jeff Kent (25 games) and Tony Eusebio (24 games). Pence ended up tied with three other Astros, Moises Alou, Luis Gonzalez, and Art Howe, who had 23 game hit streaks when they were with the Astros.
This could be a blessing in disguise for Pence and the Astros as now they can rest the outfielder for a few games and get his back healthy.
