Down On The Farm: Monday Night Recap

I know that it’s been an extremely long time since I’ve done a minor league recap for your Houston Astros, but I’m going to try to get this going again. The last week was extremely rough on the farm system as there was not a lot of winning going on. There were still some solid individual performances, but on the whole the farm system has struggled. Now without further ado we will recap the Monday night action and see how far we can keep it going this time.

Oklahoma City RedHawks lost 5-4 to the Salt Lake Bees

Tonight’s game marked Jeff Keppinger’s first rehab game at triple-A this year. He went 0-4 tonight, but hit the ball well as a DH at Corpus Christi. Brandon Barnes and Tommy Manzella provided your offense tonight, both going 2-4 with a Homerun and 2 RBIs apiece. The Hyphen Ryan Rowland-Smith has been pitching good since moving into the rotation, and had another good outing tonight going 7 innings while giving up 2 earned runs and striking out 6. At the very least The Hyphen provides emergency backup depth for the big league club.

Joe Inglett (LF): 1-3, 1 walk, 2 SO – Has a .200 batting average at Triple-A this year after starting the season with the big league club.

Koby Clemens (1B): 1-4, 1 SO, .245 avg.

Brian Dopirak (DH): 2-3, 2B, 1 SO, .264 avg.

Brandon Barnes (CF): 2-4, HR, 2 RBI, .233 avg.

Corpus Christi Hooks beat the San Antonio Missions 5-1

Corpus ended an 8 game losing streak on Sunday, and followed it up with another win here tonight. Tonight’s win was mainly about the pitching with Johnathan Aristil going 6 innings and only allowing 1 earned run. Shane Wolf, Erick Abreu, and Danny Meszaros each followed with a scoreless inning of relief.

TJ Steele (CF): 2-2, RBI, 2 BB, .261 avg.- Slowly starting to come around

Jimmy Van Ostrand (1B): 1-3, BB, SO, .285 avg.

Jake Goebbert (LF): 2-3, 3 RBI, BB, SO, .294 avg.

Jon Gaston (RF): 1-3, RBI, BB, SO, .244 avg.

Johnathan Aristil (P): 6 IP, 5 hits, ER, BB, 4 SO – Solid performance tonight, but still has a 5.01 ERA on the season

Danny Meszaros (P): 1 IP, BB, 2 SO, 3.60 ERA – Has pitched well since joining Corpus

Not a very good night for the JetHawks to say the least. Robert Donovan lasted just 3.2 innings while allowing 7 earned runs. Wander Alvino also had a rough night going 1.2 innings while giving up 4 earned runs.

Jose Altuve (2B): 2-4, 2 2B, .379 avg. – This guy is just a hitting machine
