Tonight’s game postponed; both teams could benefit

Even though we are still hours away from tonight’s start time the game has been postponed due to heavy rains in the Cincinnati area, a move that could benefit both teams for this series. The game has already been rescheduled to be played Thursday, a day that both teams had scheduled off. For the Reds, this will allow them to activate right hander Homer Bailey for him to start the make up game. Bailey I think would most likely take Travis Wood’s spot, who has struggled this season. Last year, he had a 4-3 record with a 4.46 ERA and coming off the DL and making his first start in the 2011 season may mean he is a little rusty and hopefully the Astros’ bats can capitalize on that.

For the Astros, this could provide manager Brad Mills an opportunity to skip Aneury Rodriguez start if he is not confident in the pitcher. J.A. Happ would pitch Game 1, followed by Myers for Game 2, and have Wandy Rodriguez get the ball in the series finale and because of the rain out they would all pitch on normal rest. Now I am not sure if Mills would want to do this, especially in Wandy’s case, as he has thrown 358 pitches over his last three starts. Either way, this rain out now provides Mills with some different options.
